Who organized?
Tony Smith

It could be good to build on the discussion from last month about definitions and vocabulary, but there should also be opportunity to talk about our relevant projects from analysing the role of knowledge in the emergence of organisational coherence to exploring the border of order-edge of chaos through cellular automata.

Emergence is our umbrella label for the generally unanticipatable consequences of complex systems, general evolution, self-organised criticality, dissipative systems, biological adaptation, memetics, synergy, general systems, non-linear dynamics, cybernetics, etc., etc., etc..

    •  Six people attended. After more than 250,000 cycles Tony's 'big bang' universe on a Cartesian grid (a variant on the Game of Life), new types of persistent entities are still emerging and some of the early ones are still surviving. We also discussed how a PhD student might deal with emerging phenomena in a large engineering organisation he is studying.
    •  Strong discussion between people who share background understanding and don't come across enough others who do daya to day, plus a serious prospect for further expanding activity and awareness.
